Mechernich – When you think of summer, three things usually come to mind: sunshine, cool water and fruity, delicious drinks such as cocktails. That's what the carers at the Mechernich-based "Sozialwerk Communio in Christo e.V." long-term and nursing care facility thought.

They organised water games and a cocktail afternoon for the residents to make the most of the good weather, as Franziska Geist, head of the care staff department, reported.

Fishing, can throwing and more

Firstly, they set up three different stations. These included a pool filled with water and small objects that had to be fished for points. The second station on the programme was can throwing. Last but not least, there were boxes filled with sand and miniature objects that could be found and exchanged for points. The afternoon was accompanied by "good humour and beautiful music".

Customised creations

On another warm summer afternoon, the care staff then organised a cocktail afternoon. Here, each resident had a choice of different juices, fruits and other ingredients. "So everyone could have their own personalised cocktail prepared," says Geist. Here too, summery hits and good humour made for a successful afternoon.
